Gospel musician Betty Bayo’s husband, Hiram Gitau, delivered an emotional tribute during the gospel singer’s burial, describing her death as a loss that has left him without the compass that once guided his life.

Gitau said his wife’s absence had created a void he struggles to comprehend, speaking of the daily moments that now haunt him, the conversations they once shared, the small routines that formed the rhythm of their life, and the silent nights where he still reaches for her.

“Where your laughter used to live, my soul knows a new, raw footprint, an escape of lost shape, entirely by your absence. In losing you, I have lost the compass by which I navigated the world. The pain, the horror, the low howl, I find myself turning to share about with you, only to find empty space,” Gitau said.

“I reach for you in the night, and find cold shoes. The most certain rituals of our life, the shared glances over the children's heads, the soft conversations. After long days, the simple act of carrying a moment of facial care together are now aching memories.”

Gitau said he now carries a weight he can never put down, but insisted that his purpose remains anchored in the couple’s children, Sky and Danny.

“But hear this, my love, and hold it close in your eternal rest. My commitment to our children is now the very agent of my life. They are our living legacy, the most precious pieces of you left on this earth,” he added.

He promised to protect and nurture the children with the same love their mother embodied.

“I want you to have a divine peace in your spirit, because my commitment to you, because my commitment to you, for our children, Sky and Danny, that I will always respect their decisions to the best of their interest, while also jealously guarding the love you instilled in our family. I will guard their hearts with a ferocity you would recognise.”

Gitau also vowed to honour Bayo’s traditions, including family holidays, birthday surprises and the bond she cultivated between both sides of their families.

“I will be a fortress against the world's storms, ensuring they never doubt for a single moment that they are cherished, wanted, and adored. The godless, effortless love you poured into them will now flow through me, doubled in its intensity, because it now carries my share and yours. You taught me how to love with death, how to parent with grace, just like your mom taught you, and the lessons and virtues she instilled in you will remain the anchor of our home.”

He said even her upcoming birthday on November 24 would be remembered, expressing gratitude for the time they shared, despite the pain of her death.

“I promise to take care of Mom, just like you taught us, and enhance the bond with her. Graduates, Sky and Amis, I may not fit in the gap as the last one she adored, but I will do my best to make sure your memories will remain vibrant and alive. Like how you brought your family and my family together during Christmas, I promise you that it will not die off, and Sky and Danny will be there to help me keep the bond of your uncles and aunties from both our families.”

“The children, holidays, and birthday surprises will remain honoured, including yours, which is coming up on 24th November, four days from your arresting date. I am shattered, but I am not broken. I am wounded, but I am armed with the lessons you taught me.”

He expressed his enduring love for the late Betty, saying it is hard to accept the will of God, but maybe God didn't want her to suffer in the cruel and unforgiving world.

“Rest now, my beautiful wife. Rest in the perfect, greatest peace of God that you so richly deserve. Your watch has ended. Mine continues. Watch over us until I can hold you again. My love, now and always, rest with the angels till we meet again.”
