A 31-year-old woman was found dead in her house after a domestic fight in a village in Likuyani, Kakamega County.

Police said the body of Sheila Chelagat was discovered with injuries to the head, hands, and legs. This came after she and her husband were reportedly involved in a fight.

The man was arrested for grilling following the November 18 incident.

The motive for the killing was not immediately established. Neighbours told police there had been an altercation between the couple before Chelagat’s body was found.

The body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Cases of domestic fights turning fatal have been on the rise despite ongoing efforts to address them.

Elsewhere in Dadaab, Garissa County, four suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old girl.

The Dadaab court granted police 20 days to investigate four suspects linked to the killing of the orphaned girl, whose body was found on November 16, 2025.

The suspects have been linked to the gruesome murder of Safiya Hussein Bilal.

The four were arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Evans Muleka, where police requested more time to complete investigations.

According to investigators, they intend to charge the first suspect with murder, while the remaining three will face charges of being accessories after the fact.

Investigating officer Jefferson Mwiti told the court that the suspects were arrested in connection with the killing.

Mwiti said the first respondent allegedly defiled and strangled the minor as she slept, the second attempted to cover up the crime, and the third and fourth suspects allegedly washed the child's body to conceal evidence.

He added that further investigations were required, including recording statements from additional witnesses, conducting mental assessments on the suspects, and ensuring their safety and that of the public, as they were considered flight risks given the proximity of Fafi Sub-County to the Somalia border.

Prosecution Counsel Simon Eyanae supported the application, saying investigators needed adequate time to conduct a comprehensive inquiry.

He noted the matter was of great public interest, necessitating urgent justice for the victim and her family. Eyanae added that DNA samples would be sought from the first respondent for comparison with evidence collected from the victim.

Magistrate Muleka granted the application and directed that the suspects be detained at Hagadera Police Station for 20 days to allow the completion of investigations.
