Brace for sunny, dry week, weatherman says

Kenya is set for a mostly sunny and dry week, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department’s latest seven-day forecast covering November 18 – November 24, 2025.

In its advisory issued on November 17, the department said most parts of the country will experience dry conditions.

However, light rainfall is expected in several regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands and parts of North-eastern Kenya.

Daytime temperatures will remain high in many areas, including the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya will record maximum temperatures above 30°C.

Some parts of the South-eastern lowlands, Rift Valley and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley are also expected to experience similar heat levels.

The weatherman warned of chilly nights in several highland areas, with minimum temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley floor, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Nyahururu will be among the coldest spots, with lows projected at 5°C.

According to the forecast, regions around Lake Victoria and Western Kenya will have sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.

Morning, afternoon and night showers may occur in a few places.

Counties expected to experience these conditions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori.

North-western Kenya, including Turkana and Samburu, will be hot and dry during the day with partly cloudy nights.

No significant rainfall is expected in these areas.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley — which include Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Embu and Nairobi — will experience sunny intervals during the day.

Afternoon showers may occur in a few places as cloud cover builds up.

North-eastern Kenya is expected to remain dry and hot, though morning rains and afternoon showers may occur in isolated areas of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit and Isiolo.

Garissa will experience highs of up to 35°C, while Mandera may rise to 38°C.

The South-eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta, will experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

Makindu and Kitui may record highs of up to 30°C.

Coastal counties; Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale  will remain hot and humid.

Maximum temperatures in Mombasa and Malindi will range between 31°C and 33°C.

In its review of the previous week, the department noted that only a few areas received rainfall.

The highest seven-day total was 69mm recorded in Migori, while Makueni registered the heaviest 24-hour rainfall at 54.7mm.

Temperatures fluctuated, with Mandera recording a high of 37.5°C and Nyahururu dropping to 5°C.

The department urged the public to follow daily updates and county-specific forecasts as conditions may change.
