Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sounded a stern warning to individuals planning to bribe their way into the upcoming nationwide police recruitment, saying anyone caught engaging in corruption will be arrested.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at A.G.C. Kaboson in Bomet County, Murkomen said the government will enforce strict transparency measures in the exercise scheduled for November 17.

“We demand transparency and accountability. Those who are carrying money when people go to run so that they can bribe, we want to tell you that we will arrest you,” Murkomen said.

The CS urged local communities across the country to actively participate in safeguarding the integrity of the recruitment, noting that public involvement is key in eliminating graft.

“We want you, as local Kenyan communities, to come out as observers. We want your support for those who will be bribing, to record them and bring them to us, so that we can sort out this thing of corruption,” he added.

Murkomen also said the government intends to conclude the recruitment process within the same day to prevent interference after candidates have completed the physical and academic verification stages.

“We want the exercise to be completed by 5pm so that we can be able to announce all the successful applicants,” he said.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has confirmed that the nationwide recruitment will take place on November 17 in all sub-counties.

The National Police Service (NPS) has said that the exercise aims to ensure adequate staffing across the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. Recruitment teams have already been dispatched, with instructions to adhere strictly to NPS guidelines.

The recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security services and enhance the country’s policing capacity.

According to a notice issued by IG Kanja, the recruitment will take place simultaneously in counties across 422 designated centres, and all applicants are required to report to their respective venues by 8:00 am sharp.

In the notice, Kanja said applicants are required to be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possess a valid Kenya national identity card, and have attained a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with at least a D+ in English or Kiswahili.

Candidates must also be physically and medically fit, with the minimum height requirements set at 5 feet 8 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women.

The NPS further stated that applicants must have no criminal record or pending criminal charges, while female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or the entire training period.

The service encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the qualifications to apply, noting that their prior training would be an added advantage.

Interested applicants are required to download and complete the prescribed application form, which is available on official government websites.

Application forms can also be obtained from the nearest Huduma Centre.

Upon completing the forms, candidates must present themselves at their designated recruitment centres on the day of the exercise, carrying both originals and photocopies of their academic certificates, national ID, birth certificate, and, where applicable, an NYS discharge certificate with a minimum rating of “Good” in conduct.

The NPS clarified that all original documents will be returned to the applicants before they leave the recruitment centre.
