Suluhu's swearing-in

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan was sworn in for a new term on Monday during a ceremony held at a military parade ground in Dodoma.

The ceremony took place under tight security at the capital, where uniformed officers, senior government officials, and dignitaries gathered for the swearing-in ritual.

The public was not allowed to attend the event, but the proceedings were broadcast live by state-run TBC, allowing citizens to follow the ceremony from their homes.

Samia was declared the winner of the presidential election on Saturday with 98 per cent of the vote.

During the ceremony, Samia took the oath of office before the Chief Justice, standing before the national flag and flanked by military honour guards.

The event was formal and measured, marked by the rhythmic salutes of the parade battalion and the symbolic handover of state instruments of power.

Kalonzo honours Raila

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday honoured his longtime political ally, the late Raila Odinga, in a deeply symbolic traditional gesture by delivering dozens of cattle to his Opoda Farm home in Bondo, Siaya county.

Reports indicated that Kalonzo brought with him about 100 cattle, a grand show of respect that underscored the depth of his admiration for the former Prime Minister.

Their arrival marked what has become one of the most striking tributes to Raila, whose death on October 15 triggered an outpouring of grief and honour across the country and beyond.

Marakwet East mudslide tragedy

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen led search and rescue operations following the mudslide tragedy that struck Marakwet East.

The mudslide, triggered by heavy rains, has left families displaced and caused widespread devastation in the affected villages.

Murkomen said the government was working urgently to account for all those affected.

“We are coming face to face with the devastation the tragedy left in its wake and racing against time to save lives and reassure a distraught community that we share in their pain,” he said.

Uhuru leads Jubilee grassroots meeting

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Murang’a on Friday for a Jubilee Party grassroots leaders meeting at Kenol.

He was accompanied by Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The gathering is expected to kickstart the party’s efforts to consolidate support in the region, with leaders seeking guidance on political strategies and the future direction of Mt. Kenya.

The meeting brings together Jubilee’s officials and constituency officials to deliberate on grassroots mobilisation, party cohesion, and strategies to strengthen the party’s influence in the region.

Party insiders say the event is part of a broader plan to rally support for Jubilee candidates and ensure alignment with the party’s vision for Mt. Kenya.

Geothermal power

President William Ruto on Monday oversaw the groundbreaking for Kaishan Olkaria Geothermal Power and Kaishan Olkaria Fertiliser plants in Nakuru County.

Accompanying the President for the commissioning of the project in Naivasha constituency was Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

Chinese engineering company Kaishan Group Co. Ltd, through subsidiary Kaishan Terra Green Ammonia Limited, has signed a steam supply agreement with KenGen for a planned 165.4-MW geothermal power plant in Kenya, which will produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia and green fertiliser annually.

Under the terms of the agreement, Kaishan will be constructing the power plant and will be receiving steam from KenGen’s operational geothermal fields.
