Detectives are investigating the murder of a woman whose body was found floating on River Tana in Tana River County.

The body had a dog chain secured with a padlock on her left leg and was spotted floating along the edge of the river in the Golbanti area.

Police said the body was retrieved and taken to a local mortuary pending identification and autopsy. It is believed the woman was killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the river.

The motive and the killers are yet to be established, police said on Thursday. The body had visible injuries, and it is suspected she was held somewhere, tortured and murdered before being dumped in the river.

She did not have any identification documents at the time, police added.

Elsewhere, detectives are investigating the murder of a 43-year-old man whose body was found in his house in the Kapsoya area, Uasin Gishu County.

The deceased was identified as Moris Mwiti Muthee, according to police.

He was found unresponsive in the house on the morning of November 5, 2025, by a neighbour who had gone to wake him up as usual for work.

Police visited the scene and established that the deceased had a deep cut on the head, and his left ear had been chopped off. His body lay in a pool of blood.

It is believed the man was killed inside the house. The assailants escaped without stealing anything.

Police said the motive was not immediately clear as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

In Ahero, Kisumu County, one Felix Odongo, 18, was found murdered, his body concealed under a concrete culvert.

The motive of the killing was not immediately established, police said, as they transferred the body to the mortuary for a postmortem.

Meanwhile, police arrested a prime suspect in the fatal stabbing of a boda boda rider in Rongo, Migori County, during a confrontation between two factions over pending polls.

Police said Steve Okoth, 30, was stabbed and killed during the confrontation on Tuesday evening after riders disagreed over the planned elections.

The polls were later postponed over security concerns. Police said they are pursuing more suspects in the chaos that also left five other riders injured.

The incident prompted a police operation targeting the suspected attackers. This comes amid calls for reforms in the boda boda sector after reports indicated some members are involved in criminal activities.

There is an ongoing push and pull over the planned regulation of the sector.
