The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a public notice urging Kenyans across the world to register with the nearest Kenyan embassies and high commissions and to share details of any compatriots who may be in danger in foreign countries.

In a statement posted on its official platform, the Ministry said it had received numerous concerns and appeals from Kenyans regarding the safety of their relatives and friends abroad, prompting the call for immediate action and coordination.

“The Ministry has heard your concerns and requests that all Kenyans share through our inbox the names and addresses of those who may be exposed to any sort of danger in neighbouring and distant countries,” the notice reads.

It further urged members of the public to provide the name and contact details of a relative for coordination between the Ministry, the Directorate of Diaspora Affairs (@Diaspora_KE), and Kenya Missions abroad.

The Ministry reiterated the importance of registration for all Kenyans living or working outside the country, noting that it is a legal and safety requirement clearly indicated on page 32 of the Kenyan passport.

“As Kenyans, we are all required at the earliest opportunity to register ourselves and our addresses at the nearest Kenya Mission abroad,” the statement said.

“This helps the government track, communicate, and offer assistance in times of emergencies, conflicts, or natural disasters.”

The Ministry assured citizens that all information shared will be handled confidentially and promptly relayed to respective Kenyan missions for necessary action and follow-up.

“Let us all work together to secure the best interests of our brothers and sisters wherever they may be,” it stated, adding that the Ministry will provide feedback to those who share verified details.

The notice emphasised that the Ministry’s online communication channels remain open and accessible for the submission of information and inquiries from Kenyans worldwide.

The call comes amid increased concern for Kenyan nationals in several countries, including Tanzania, facing security challenges, with the government reinforcing its commitment to protect and assist citizens abroad through its embassies and consulates.

The government announced Thursday it had intensified diplomatic engagement with Tanzania following reports of rights violations against its citizens in the neighbouring country.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said he held phone consultations with his Tanzanian counterpart, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, focusing on the welfare and protection of Kenyans residing and working in Tanzania.

“Held productive consultations on phone with my counterpart, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania, focusing on the welfare and protection of Kenyans residing and working in Tanzania," Mudavadi said.

“I reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding the rights, safety, and dignity of our Kenyan community, men and women who continue to make a positive impact on Tanzania’s economy through entrepreneurship, trade, and professional services.”

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said the two discussed recent reports involving incidents where the rights of certain Kenyan nationals were infringed.

“We discussed recent reports involving incidents where the rights of certain Kenyan nationals were infringed. For these specific matters, formal reports have been submitted to the Tanzanian authorities for appropriate action,” he said.

According to Mudavadi, both governments agreed that any arising concerns would be handled through diplomatic and consular channels, in accordance with international conventions and regional protocols.
