President William Ruto is in Doha, Qatar, to attend the United Nations Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2).
The three-day summit will centre on poverty reduction, decent work, and social inclusion, bringing together world leaders to chart a renewed global social agenda.
There will be plenary meetings each day, with an opening segment on November 4 featuring the adoption of the Political Declaration and statements.
Ruto is expected to finalise major investment agreements aimed at modernising Kenya’s infrastructure and accelerating key energy and transport projects.
He will also engage in high-level bilateral discussions, including talks with Qatar’s Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Kenya will be seeking expanded Qatari investment in sectors such as agriculture — with a focus on food security and climate-smart production — in addition to renewable energy, green hydrogen, health, tourism, transport, and logistics.
Ruto will also push for the expansion of the Kenya-Qatar Bilateral Labour Agreement to include more professional and technical opportunities.
The initiative aims to enhance skills development aligned with Qatar’s labour market while widening opportunities for young Kenyans abroad.
CS Ogamba to face MPs over ban on social activities in Third Term
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba will appear before the Committee on Delegated Legislation over the ban on extracurricular activities during the third term.
Ogamba will meet members of the committee at Bunge Towers from 10 am.
The Ministry of Education has banned all social and extracurricular activities during the third term to help students focus on national examinations, a directive that includes events like prayer days, Annual General Meetings (AGMs), and prize-giving ceremonies.
In an official notice dated August 28, Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok announced that the move is aimed at enhancing extra focus among students ahead of the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams.
The third and final term is mainly considered an exam period in schools, and the PS revealed that it is important for students not to be distracted by such activities.
Bitok, however, clarified that prayers for students ahead of the exams will still take place, but strictly conducted by chaplains and teachers within schools.
