Security teams are searching for three rifles that were
separately stolen in attacks on police officers in Nakuru and Kiambu Counties.
The weapons, which included two AK-47 rifles and a G3 rifle,
were stolen alongside 180 bullets, police said.
Police stated that the incidents are not related.
Two police officers who were the custodians of the weapons
have been detained pending further investigations, police said.
In the first incident, an AK-47 rifle was stolen from a
police officer in the Menengai area of Nakuru County.
The officer, who is attached to the Ngata Police Post, was
found outside the police post line with a head injury.
He had been attacked and robbed of his weapon by unknown
people.
His colleagues said he appeared confused when he was found
on the morning of October 28, 2025.
His rifle, loaded with 30 bullets, was missing. It is still
unclear how and where he was robbed of the weapon.
The officer was taken to hospital as the search for the
weapon continued, police said. He was later detained for questioning.
Elsewhere, at Maguguni Patrol Base in Thika, an AK-47 rifle
and a G3 rifle were stolen from the armoury under unclear circumstances.
A police officer reported that while patrolling the station
compound and the area near the A.I.P.C.A. Church after hearing dogs barking, he
noticed something unusual and discovered that one of the iron sheets on the
armoury wall had been removed.
He proceeded to the armoury and found its padlock broken.
Inside, the steel storage box had been opened, and the firearms and 150 rounds
of ammunition were missing after the October 29, 2025 incident.
A search for the weapons is ongoing, police said.
Meanwhile, in the Mau Summit area of Nakuru County, a police
officer was hit by a stone as he confronted a gang attempting to break into a
lorry and steal goods in transit.
Police had received reports of an accident on the
Nakuru–Eldoret highway at Nyanja area involving a trailer, and that a crowd was
gathering with the intention of looting.
A team responded and found a mob of about 200 people trying
to break into the lorry and steal.
Police said the team tried to disperse the mob, who
responded by hurling stones and twigs.
One officer was struck on the cheek and injured.
His colleagues responded by firing in the air, successfully
dispersing the mob.
Such cases of theft from stalled lorries or those involved
in accidents are common in the area.
