A police officer attached to Kitale Police Station has been
arrested and detained in connection with the shooting, pending arraignment.
According to police reports, the suspect was identified by
witnesses during an identification parade conducted at the station on Thursday.
The witnesses reportedly recognised him as the person who
shot the student.
The incident occurred at around dawn on October 22, 2025, at
Norec Shopping Centre, where the victim and his colleagues were playing pool.
Witnesses told police that an argument broke out between the
student and a man later identified as a police officer.
The suspect allegedly drew his firearm and shot the student
at close range before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Police officers responding to the scene recovered two spent
9mm cartridges and one bullet head outside a pool table shop.
Bloodstains were also found at the scene, confirming the
shooting had taken place there.
The student was rushed to the Kijana Wamalwa Referral
Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition with a gunshot wound to
the stomach.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the
circumstances leading to the shooting, including what triggered the
altercation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers
have joined the probe to determine whether the firearm used in the incident was
government-issued.
Elsewhere in Mombasa County, a woman survived with injuries
after being allegedly pushed off the first floor of an apartment building in
Jomvu.
According to police, the woman reported that she had a
domestic quarrel with her husband before he turned violent and pushed her from
the balcony at around 1 a.m. on October 22.
She sustained injuries and was taken to a local hospital,
where she is receiving treatment in stable condition. Police are currently
searching for the husband for questioning.
In a separate incident, police in Nairobi are investigating
the death of a man who was hit by a train along the Ruiru–Nairobi railway line
in Industrial Area.
The man’s body was found on the railway track hours after
the incident on Wednesday.
Police said
preliminary investigations indicate that he was attempting to cross the line
when the train struck him.

identification and a postmortem examination.
