Former Chief Justice and UGM presidential candidate David Maraga opens party office in Mombasa county, October 24, 2025. /DAVID MARAGA/XThe United Green Movement party has opened its new regional office in Mombasa.
The move has been described by the party's 2027 presidential flagbrearer, former Chief Justice David Maraga, as a significant step in strengthening UGM's grassroots presence ahead of the polls.
Announcing the launch on Friday, Maraga said the Mombasa office will serve as a coordination centre for party activities across
the coastal region.
Maraga said the Mombasa office is part of a
broader national rollout aimed at establishing functional party structures in
every county.
“Today, I presided over the opening of our UGM Party Mombasa county office,” he wrote on his official X account, accompanied by photos of
the event.
In a separate post, Maraga revealed that plans were underway
to open another office in Kilifi county to enhance the party’s reach in the
region.
“We are determined to have our presence in all 47 counties
and the Diaspora as we strive to reset, restore and build our beloved Kenya
under our Ukatiba philosophy,” he said.
Maraga has in recent months drawn noticeable interest from younger voters,
particularly the Gen Z demographic, as he continues to criss-cross the country
expanding the party’s grassroots reach.
His campaign activities have increasingly targeted
youth-dominated spaces, with the former Chief Justice
appearing keen on inspiring civic participation among young Kenyans amid the
ongoing voter registration exercise.
He encouraged the youth to register as voters and take part
in shaping Kenya’s future.
During his visit to the Coast, Maraga also
toured Tana River county, where he met local leaders and party supporters.
Earlier in the week, he presided over the launch of UGM’s
campaign for Odha Ilu Hiyesa, the party’s candidate in the upcoming Chewani
Ward by-election in Tana River.
Maraga thanked residents for the warm reception during his
meetings, saying he was encouraged by the growing enthusiasm around UGM’s
message of constitutional governance, justice and inclusivity.
“Asanteni sana Tana River county for such a warm reception. Kenya
is changing day by day as we work to send the Ruto regime home,” he stated.
The UGM party is positioning itself as an alternative
political voice in a landscape often dominated by established parties like UDA, ODM, Wiper and Jubilee.
Maraga’s coastal tour forms part of a wider campaign trail that has seen him visit several counties, including Kisumu and Siaya as he seeks to expand the party’s influence.
