On July 10, 2025, police arrested a suspect in Nairobi and recovered stolen electronic devices in an intelligence-led operation.
Officers from Utalii police station stormed the suspect’s
residence, which also serves as an electronics repair workshop, following
credible information from members of the public.
“The suspect was placed in custody, awaiting arraignment in
court as investigations continue,” a police officer said.
During the raid, police recovered 72 mobile phones, two
laptops, one Universal Flashing Interface (UFI), a Pandora device, a camera,
two external hard drives, and a CPU.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 32 of the
mobile phones had already been positively identified by M-KOPA company as
items stolen from their customers and secured by the officers.
The remaining electronics were secured as exhibits
pending further identification by rightful owners.
The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting arraignment as investigations continue to determine the full scope of his operations and any possible accomplices.
The arrest comes amid a surge in electronic thefts, especially in informal settlements across Nairobi, with police stepping up efforts to dismantle networks involved in the resale and modification of stolen devices.
“The National
Police Service commends members of the public for the information that led to
the arrest and recovery, and encourages them to continue working closely with
law enforcement officers by volunteering information in line with the spirit of
community policing,” the NPS said.
