There was drama outside a club in Eldoret when a man shot into the air in rage after he had been denied entry into the facility.

The man, who is a licensed firearm holder, was disarmed and arrested on Sunday morning, police said.

Police said he had arrived at the club at about 1 am in the company of other revellers when they asked to wait at the entrance for a search.

He was frisked and found to be armed.

He was then informed by the security team that he would not be allowed into the facility because he was armed.

This angered him as he tried to force his way in.

The security at the facility stood firm and stopped him from getting into the club while armed.

It was then that he stepped back, drew his gun and fired into the air once.

Police were informed of the incident and responded before they disarmed him of his Glock pistol that had 14 bullets.

He was also detained for grilling before he was ordered to report back to the police station for further processing and possible arraignment.

Cases of misuse of guns by both public and private individuals have been rampant, with police pledging action on those implicated.

Meanwhile, more than 340 assorted guns and 2,300 bullets have been recovered in the ongoing disarmament exercise in parts of the Kerio Valley.

The exercise is focused on Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo Counties.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, on Saturday, supported the intensification of ongoing disarmament in Kerio Valley to ensure long-lasting peace and security in the area.

Kindiki said ridding the region of firearms is the last leg in the quest to restore peace after bandits were suppressed in previous security operations.

Further, he said that the government has made huge progress in the war against banditry in Kerio Valley and other bordering counties in the North Rift Region.

He lauded the multi-agency security team that has suppressed the criminals and recovered guns, saying that the Ruto administration will ensure a long-lasting peace in Kerio Valley.

The DP encouraged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who was present, to beef up the exercise for its ultimate success.

“Disarmament will ensure long-lasting peace in Kerio Valley. I believe Murkomen will complete what we started and ensure long-lasting security in the area. Continue with the good work of disarmament, which you have started, and you have our full support,” DP stated.

He said the area is endowed with huge economic potential, pledging empowerment of the residents once normalcy fully returns.

“Once disarmament is done, the President will lead us to burn the surrendered firearms, and we will hold huge empowerment for the residents so they can engage in better activities,” he added.

He said the kinetic operations launched when he was Interior Cabinet Secretary had borne fruit as they suppressed the bandits, cattle rustlers and other criminals wreaking havoc in the region.

“I worked hard to deal with insecurity in the area when I was Interior Cabinet Secretary. We did everything possible to restore peace and normalcy. I am happy we set the pace for full restoration of lasting security,” he said.
