A man in Maralal, Samburu County, killed his two children in a domestic dispute before fleeing the scene, police have said.
The incident happened on the morning of Sunday, September 28, 2025, in the Yare area.
The children—a six-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy—were attacked while asleep in their beds. Police reported that the 36-year-old suspect used a knife to slit their throats, killing them instantly.
According to police, the man had arrived home late at night and quarrelled with his wife. He later turned violent, stabbing her in the head. The woman managed to escape and is currently admitted to the hospital in stable condition.
The suspect then disappeared into the darkness, leaving behind the bodies of the children and the sheath of the knife. Police officers called to the scene collected the bodies and transferred them to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations. A manhunt has been launched for the suspect.
Elsewhere, police in Maseno, Kisumu County, are investigating after human remains were discovered at Obado Hills.
Officers recovered a human skull, dry bones and a pair of black trousers, which were taken to the mortuary for autopsy and identification.
In Kakamega County, the body of Zedrick Ochonyo, 42, was found on the banks of River Yala in the Musoli area. Family members said he had been missing for a week. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Gesima, Nyamira County, the body of Benedict Sambu, 45, was discovered dumped in an unused pit latrine.
Police said the deceased had a deep cut on the head, and blood stains were visible at the scene. The body was taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.
Police in all four cases said inquiries are ongoing, with the motives behind the killings yet to be established.
