The Social Health Authority has assured the public that the ongoing recruitment exercise of new officers is transparent and in strict adherence to laid-down procedures to hire only the best.

In a statement, the authority appreciated the thousands of Kenyans who applied for advertised vacancies, saying it was a demonstration of their willingness to be part of the reform agenda in the health sector.

“Recruitment is being conducted meticulously, transparently, and in strict adherence to the approved Human Resource & Career Guidelines, to ensure that suitably qualified candidates are selected to serve Kenyans,” the SHA said.

The hiring process commenced on July 29 when SHA advertised 64 employment slots, including five for directors, 15 for deputy directors and 16 for assistant directors.

The authority noted that the exercise is still ongoing and progressing as planned after a previous internal hiring process was nullified by the Employment and Labour Relations Court.

SHA emphasised that it remains focused on building a professional and accountable institution dedicated to delivering quality healthcare to all Kenyans.

The statement comes a day after a section of the media claimed that a whistleblower who exposed alleged fraud in the SHA had been left out of the shortlist for the deputy director position.

However, it has since emerged that the officer, an auditor within the authority, never applied for that slot and instead opted to apply for the post of assistant director.

“We encourage members of the media to uphold accuracy and responsibility in their reporting to keep the public well-informed on this important national exercise,” SHA urged.

The authority further thanked the staff of the former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for their invaluable support during the transition to the SHA.

It assured the public that the reforms were on course to advance universal health coverage for all Kenyans.

SHA is the entity mandated with managing the three universal healthcare schemes of Primary Healthcare Fund (PHC), the Social Health Insurance (SHIF) and the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF).
