The late Justice Fred Andago Ochieng’ will be laid to rest on Friday, September 26, 2025, at his home in Menara, Muhoroni Constituency, Kisumu County.

A requiem mass in his honour is set to be held on Wednesday, 2 pm at St. Austin’s Parish, Msongari in Nairobi.

According to the family, the cortege will depart Nairobi on Thursday, September 25, for Menara, Koru, in Kisumu County, ahead of the funeral service and interment on Friday morning.

Senior government officials, led by Head of Public Service Felix, joined the family Tuesday at his Nairobi home in preparations for the burial.

Koskei said he worked closely with Justice Ochieng’ during his time at the Judicial Service Commission.

He described him as a man who was dedicated to service.

"He served with distinction and dedication to justice," he stated.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who was also present, condoled with the family, praising the late judge’s contribution to judicial reforms.

"As we honour his memory and celebrate his life of service, we pray for strength and comfort upon the bereaved family," he said.

At the time of his death, he was serving as chairperson of the Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce, which is spearheading the national roll-out of Court-Annexed Mediation.

Justice Ochieng’ is remembered as a brilliant legal mind and reform champion whose work advanced access to justice through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

His death has been described as a great loss to the Judiciary and the legal fraternity.

Ochieng, who joined the Judiciary in 2003 as a Judge of the High Court, passed away on September 17.

He served in various stations, including the Civil Division, Kitale, Kakamega, the Criminal Division, the Commercial and Admiralty Division, and Kisumu.

In 2022, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal.

Chief Justice Martha Koome, in her tribute, said Ochieng will be fondly remembered as a towering figure in the development of Kenya’s commercial law jurisprudence and as a strong advocate for the promotion of alternative dispute resolution.

At the time of his passing, he was serving as the Chairperson of the Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce, which is spearheading the national roll-out of Court-Annexed Mediation.

Prior to joining the Judiciary, he had a distinguished career as an Advocate of the High Court in the firm of Kaplan and Stratton Advocates for almost two decades.
