Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka will not attend the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s 20th anniversary slated for Mombasa next month.

Kalonzo said although he had been invited as a founding member by party leader Raila Odinga, he will not be available for the event that includes a dinner that particular day, as he has other engagements.

Other than chairing Wiper Party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) on October 10, Kalonzo hinted that he doesn’t wish to share a political podium with President William Ruto.

“I have been invited through a beautiful letter addressed to me as a founder member, where Raila calls me my brother.  Unfortunately, I am going to reply and say Wiper will be having its NDC. I will not be there, and I wish them well. I gather William Ruto will be there as well. I will therefore not be there,” he said.

Kalonzo spoke on Wednesday at Wiper Party’s secretariat in Karen while issuing nomination certificates to his party’s candidates for the November 27 by-elections.

When asked if opposition leaders are willing to work with Raila in future following the fallout after the ODM leader entered a working agreement with Ruto, Kalonzo said nothing is impossible.  He, however, dismissed reports of Ruto’s emissaries approaching him.

“If Raila finds that things are bad on the other side, he is one of us. I respect him. I have said that I have spent a sizeable chunk of my own life supporting him and standing with him. I repeat, I have spent a sizeable chunk of my life on earth supporting Raila Odinga. I don’t want to say anything more than that,” he said.

He added, “We shall hear many stories. Let’s wait. Perhaps you will hear funny things. We will see if people change their minds and think about how they abandoned our youths who were killed and others abducted and they kept quiet. Maybe our colleagues, wail say this broad-based thing is not working, then we may listen to them but for now we are ready.”

On the emissaries of Ruto approaching him, “Stop that nonsense. They will talk, let them talk. They have a right to imagine. They have a right to dream. If wishes were Horses, then beggars could ride on them. These are idle talk of the beggars.”
