Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka says Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera’s loss will be replicated in Kenya in 2027.

Kalonzo said that President William Ruto will be the first president to concede defeat as an incumbent, saying the events in Malawi have emboldened the opposition's resolve to the agenda.

“Kenyans are on the verge of achieving victory. It started with Independence, where the motto was let the imperialist go. Our fathers were guided by the urge to send the colonialists away. Now Kenyans are guided by one thing: new leadership,” he said.

Earlier on Malawian President Chakwera had conceded defeat and congratulated his successor and predecessor, Arthur Peter Mutharika.

President Chakwera conceded defeat to Mutharika in Malawi's presidential election held on September 16, 2025, during a televised address from Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on September 24.

“The impending victory belongs to our children, especially the Gen Zs. The likes of Rex Maasai and many other youths who were killed during last year’s uprising. There will be no contest with these people; they just accept and go home like Chakwera has done. It will be historic,” he said.

He hinted at the opposition coalition rallying behind one candidate, just like it happened in 2002 when Moi's Kanu candidate Uhuru Kenyatta was defeated by Mwai Kibaki, who was the joint candidate for the opposition.

The Wiper Leader spoke at his party headquarters when he unveiled the party’s candidates for the 27th November by-elections.

Kalonzo also used the opportunity to clarify that he will not be honouring ODM’s invitation to attend its 20th Anniversary next month.

He said his absence in the fate that include a dinner is due to party commitment as his Wiper Patriotic Front will be holding a Nayona Delegates Convention (NDC) that day, as well as not being ready to share a political podium with President Ruto.

“I have been invited through a beautiful letter addressed to me as a founder member, where Raila calls me my brother. Wiper will not honour the invite. I will not be there, and I wish them well. I hear William Ruto will be there as well. I will therefore not be there,” he said.

Kalonzo said he had no personal differences with ODM leader Raila Odinga, whom ‘I have spent a sizeable chunk of my life supporting.’

The former Vice President also used the occasion to dismiss speculations that President Ruto had sent emissaries including members of the clergy, to woo him.

“Let them talk, they have the right to imagine and right to dream. As they say, if wishes were horses, beggars could ride on them. Let them continue talking but that will never happen,” he told journalists.

Wiper Party has announced that it will field parliamentary candidates in Magarini in Kilifi, Kaspul in Homa Bay, Ugunja in Siaya and seven MCAs in different regions.

Kalonzo said that opposition leaders will grace Martha Karau’s PLP NDC scheduled for Friday, while a similar event for its partner party,  Jubilee, will only be for members.
