The Government of Kenya has welcomed the Joint Statement
issued by the Quad — comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates,
and the United States — on restoring peace and security in Sudan.
In a statement released on Monday, Kenya described the
initiative as a positive step that should be embraced by all parties to the
conflict.
Nairobi stressed that the unprecedented crisis in Sudan
demands concerted efforts at the national, regional, and international levels.
Kenya reaffirmed its support for a unified and coordinated
response from IGAD, the African Union, the United Nations, the Arab League, and
the wider international community.
It underscored the need to harmonise various peace efforts
into an African-led process firmly backed by global partners.
“The Quad meeting is a positive initiative that should be
embraced by all parties to the conflict in Sudan.
“The unprecedented crisis in Sudan calls for concerted and
collective efforts, at the national, regional, and global levels, that can
contribute to a peaceful resolution,” Kenya said.
The statement reiterated Kenya’s position that there can be
no military solution to the conflict, emphasising the importance of political
dialogue.
It urged both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid
Support Forces (RSF) to take part in a negotiated settlement.
Kenya also joined the Quad in calling for respect of Sudan’s
sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, firmly rejecting any attempts to
divide the country.
It further voiced concern over the role of extremist groups
and external military support in fueling instability.
On the humanitarian crisis, Kenya called for urgent
international efforts to enforce a ceasefire and allow aid delivery to affected
populations.
The government pledged continued facilitation of
humanitarian supplies through its territory to support Sudanese communities.
The Quad has also called for an inclusive and transparent
transition free from the control of warring parties.
Kenya supported the proposed nine-month timeline for a
Sudanese-led process that will culminate in an independent, civilian-led
government.
“Kenya remains committed to working with regional and global
partners to help the Sudanese people achieve lasting peace, stability, and
democratic governance,” the statement added.
