The National Police Service has intensified its fight against drug trafficking and related crimes, with arrests reported in both Kilifi and Migori counties this week.

On September 9, 2025, officers from Mtwapa Police Station in Kilifi County conducted an intelligence-led operation targeting drug traffickers and muggers in Kipapuro and Mzambarauni, on the outskirts of Mtwapa town.

During the crackdown, four suspects were arrested, and police recovered 55 rolls of cannabis.

The suspects were taken to Mtwapa Police Station, where they are being held in custody pending arraignment. The seized cannabis was secured at the same facility.

In a separate incident in Migori County, still on September 9, police officers in Awendo intercepted a suspect transporting a sack of cannabis sativa along the Migori–Kisii road.

The suspect was riding a motorcycle when officers flagged him down. He was immediately arrested and placed in custody. Police confirmed that he is also awaiting processing and arraignment in court.

The National Police Service underscored its commitment to addressing narcotics, warning that drugs remain a serious threat to the safety and well-being of communities.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its fight against narcotics and related crimes,” the statement said.

Authorities also appealed to the public to play an active role in the fight against drug trafficking by sharing information with law enforcement.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report drug trafficking and related crimes to the nearest police station or via the toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112, #FichuaKwaDCI 0800 722 203, or on WhatsApp at 0709 570 000,” police said.

The operations in Kilifi and Migori highlight ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug cartels and dismantle networks that have long exploited vulnerable communities across Kenya.

The arrests in both counties come barely a day after a NACADA-led multi-agency operation in Ahero, Kisumu County, broke up a narcotics supply network connecting Kisumu and Nairobi.

Officers recovered 12 sacks of bhang, already packaged for distribution. The drugs have an estimated street value of Sh12 million, making it one of the region’s biggest seizures in recent months.

A prime suspect, identified as a main supplier to the Kisumu and Nairobi markets, was arrested at the scene. She was taken to Kisumu Police Station for processing ahead of arraignment.

Authorities described the arrest as a significant step in dismantling a trafficking network linked to rising drug use and related crime in both cities.
