Police in Kakamega County have arrested 10 suspects linked to the attack on Emakale Police Post in Matungu Sub-County on Tuesday Morning.

According to a police report shared on X, the suspects were part of a group that stormed the post, raided an officer’s house, and destroyed both public documents and personal property.

“Following their recent attack on the Emakale Police Post in Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County, during which public documents and personal property belonging to an officer were destroyed, police have intensified their investigation,” the statement said.

The investigation was jointly led by the Officer in Charge (OSC) of Matungu Police Station and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

The National Police Service has condemned acts of violence targeting police officers and government facilities, warning that such actions will not be tolerated.

It further stated that anyone found interfering with police duties or damaging government property will face immediate legal action.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than through violence.

All 10 suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court.

The incident comes at the time when the rise of gang elements who often resort to taking the law into their own hands has been on the increase in recent weeks.

In neighbouring Butere on Monday, police were forced to fire several warning shots in the air to disperse a gang that attacked them during a security operation.

According to police reports, the gang, armed with blunt objects and pangas, attempted to harm the officers.

However, a swift response by the officers de-escalated the situation, forcing the attackers to flee. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.
