Herder found dead in forest in Kyuso, Kitui

A herder was found dead after a murder incident in a forest in Kyuso, Kitui County.

Police said the man, identified as Mwanzia Kaki, 27, had a deep cut in the chin, a deep wound in the rib and his body lay in a pool of blood.

Kaki was found dead in a forest in the Mandongoi area on Tuesday, and police said they are investigating a murder in the saga.

According to his employer, the deceased is reported to have left their manyatta with herds of goats on August 31 but failed to return.

Witnesses said his goats were seen returning in different intervals while unattended.

This forced the employer and locals to start searching for the deceased until two days later, when they spotted the deceased lying dead in a pool of blood.

The motive of the killing was not immediately established, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Police say they have been recording a rise in murder cases targeting herders in the area. The police link the murder to the fight over pasture in the area. Some of the incidents are pending unsolved.

Elsewhere in Kerina, Kisii County, a 39-year-old man was found murdered and his body abandoned on a cultivated farm.

The motive of the murder of Erick Onchoke was not immediately known. His body had deep cuts on the leg.

The police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

No arrest has been made so far, police said.

Elsewhere,  a police officer is admitted to the hospital in Thika after he was injured during a robbery mission in Thika Town.

The officer was off duty and was on his way to his Lamu home when he was on Monday dawn attacked and stabbed in the shoulder in a robbery attempt.

The attackers grabbed his Sh3,000 and a mobile phone before escaping.

He was rescued and rushed to the hospital, where he is recuperating.

Police said they are hunting for the suspects behind the incident.
