Community protests over a two-month power outage in Tipis, Mau Narok, Njoro Sub-county that started last weekend have been quelled with the government intensifying patrols.
Njoro Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mokin Ptang’uny confirmed on Tuesday that normalcy had returned, with locals resuming their daily activities.
“Peace has resumed, and people are going about their normal duties. We urge residents to continue embracing peaceful coexistence because this is the only way to guarantee lasting stability and economic growth,” Ptang’uny said.
During the demonstrations, the protesters barricaded the Mau Narok-Narok road, igniting ethnic tensions when a family rushing a patient to the hospital had their vehicle’s windscreen smashed.
Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara directed that residents remain indoors between 7 pm and 5 am for a period of 7 days as of Friday last week.
Security officers have continued carrying out intensified patrols in the area to help maintain law and order, even as local leaders call for reconciliatory efforts among the affected communities.
Kibaara warned that those seeking to disrupt peace would face stern action.
“The curfew will be strictly enforced. Anyone found attempting to destabilize peace will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.
