A grade two pupil died while playing on a merry-go-round at her school in Kisumu Town.

The eight-year-old girl fell and sustained a severe head injury that caused profuse bleeding, leading to her death on the evening of Thursday, August 28, police said.

According to police and witnesses, the pupil at Arena Primary School was playing with her classmates at around 3 p.m. on a six-seater iron merry-go-round when she accidentally fell off.

After falling, she was struck by the rotating seats, leaving her with serious head injuries.

She was rescued and rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to the injuries, police and witnesses reported.

Officers later visited the scene as part of investigations into the incident.

The body, which had a visible injury at the back of the head, was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

The tragedy threw the school community into mourning. On Friday, her seat remained empty as other pupils reported to class.

Meanwhile, police arrested a woman wanted for the murder of her husband in Aliwa Estate, Kondele area.

The suspect was arrested in Kahawa Wendani, Nairobi, on Wednesday and escorted to Kisumu to face charges.

Police said the arrest is connected to the killing of her husband, Joach Mosi, on July 10, 2025, in Kondele.

Investigators said the couple had quarreled before the woman stabbed and killed Mosi and then fled to Nairobi, where detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations tracked her down.

Police said the suspect will face murder charges after being processed in Kondele.

Authorities noted that murder incidents have been on the rise despite ongoing efforts to curb them, but emphasized that they are determined to resolve such cases.
