

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) will today conduct approval hearings for nominees to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
The committee will vet the nominees from 10:00 a.m. at Bunge Towers.
Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official John Lorionokou has been nominated as Registrar of Political Parties. If approved by Parliament, he will replace Anne Nderitu, who was recently appointed as an IEBC commissioner.
President William Ruto has also nominated Claris Awuor Onganga as chairperson of KNCHR and Agatha Wanjiku Wahome as Assistant Registrar of Political Parties.
Kindiki to chair the 13th Development Partnership Forum in Karen
The 13th Development Partnership Forum will be held today at the Official Residence of the Deputy President, Karen.
The forum is a high-level bi-annual meeting between the government and development partners that is chaired by the Deputy President and Co-chaired by the Development Partners Group.
It draws attendance and participation from the Cabinet Office, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Heads of Mission, Heads of Cooperation, Chair, Council of Governors, and Non-State Actors.
Further, the meeting provides a platform for political-level dialogue and high-level Policy and economic developments aimed at reviewing progress and challenges in development partnerships with Kenya as well as establishing a strategic direction for better cooperation and coordination.
Ruto to preside over the 89th National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out parade
President William Ruto will preside over the 89th National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out parade in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
The much-anticipated ceremony had initially been scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, but was moved by a day to allow for final preparations.
Last week, the Service Commandant, General James Tembur, supervised a dress rehearsal at the academy, where recruits showcased their readiness for the big day.
This year’s parade marks yet another significant milestone for the institution as it continues its transformation journey towards becoming a regional centre of excellence in training and youth empowerment.
The recruits are graduating after a six-month intensive training, having joined the academy in February this year.
Governor Mutai's impeachment trial enters day two
The impeachment trial of Kericho governor Erick Mutai enters its second day today.
On Wednesday, Mutai pleaded not guilty to the three charges brought against him by the county assembly.
He pleaded not guilty to gross violation of the Constitution and other laws, abuse of office and gross misconduct.
A total of 31 out of 47 MCAs voted to impeach Mutai on July 30, 2025, citing the three grounds.
United Nations Office at Nairobi to hold a media briefing and guided tour of its facilities
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), the UN’s only Secretariat headquarters in Africa and the Global South, will hold a briefing on milestones achieved in the region.
UNON will further showcase the office blocks expansion and upgrade project and plans for a state-of-the-art conference facility that will increase UNON’s meeting capacity from 2,000 to 9,000 delegates, including a 1,600-seat Assembly Hall.
This would make Nairobi only the third UN Secretariat location worldwide with such a hall, after Geneva and New York.
Valued at nearly USD 340 million, these projects represent the largest UN Secretariat infrastructure investment in Africa, besides peacekeeping. It underscores Nairobi’s growing importance as a global centre for diplomacy and multilateralism.
The UNON Gigiri Complex spans 140 acres and was donated by the Government of Kenya in the 1970s. Today, it hosts over 40 UN entities and more than 5,000 personnel on-site, making it one of the largest UN presences in the world.
