A 13-year-old boy was found murdered in a bizarre incident in Kadege
village, Nyando, Kisumu County.
The Sunday incident sparked anger from villagers
who descended on a 30-year-old woman and killed her on suspicion she was behind
it, police said.
The drama began after the mother of the teenage
boy sought help, saying she could not trace the grade seven pupil at Holo
Orucho Primary School.
A search in her compound led to the discovery of
the body about 200 meters away, police said.
The mother had gone to bathe at a nearby river
and left the boy with his younger sister in the house.
According to police, a friend of the mother, who
is now also deceased, had approached her saying some two strangers wanted to
talk to her. The mother brushed her aside.
The woman was later forced to join the search
party before the body of the boy was discovered. A four-month-old baby was
found alive in the thicket, police said.
It was then that the mob turned on the woman
identified as Joan Akech, killing her with stones and twigs. They accused her
of being behind the murder of the boy. The motive was not disclosed.
Police who visited the scene said the body of
the boy had strangulation marks on the neck.
Both bodies were moved to the mortuary pending
autopsy and investigations.
Police discouraged mob lynching and urged
suspects to surrender to authorities for processing.
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man was found
strangled and his body abandoned on the roadside in the Kirima area, Gachoka,
Embu County.
The motive for the murder of Samuel Njiru,
whose body was found on the Nganduri-Kiritiri road, is yet to be established,
police said on the Sunday, August 24.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an
autopsy and investigations.
Elsewhere in Ekwanda, Luanda, Vihiga County,
one Bernard Chiyoi was found dead in his bed after a suspected murder.
The man had deep cuts on the head when the
body was discovered on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an
autopsy. The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said, adding they
are pursuing the incident.
