A 25-year-old woman was found dead in her bed after a suspected murder in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

Police and witnesses said the body of Veronica Mwende had a slight injury on her chin.

It is not clear if the injury was responsible for the death of the woman, who is a mother of one.

The woman’s body was discovered on Monday morning after an overnight party in her house to celebrate her child’s birthday, a relative and police said.

Friends and relatives had gathered on Sunday at the house to celebrate the party and went to sleep late.

Her husband told police the woman went to bed early, saying she was tired.

It wasn’t until about 6 am on Monday that the man went to wake her up, only to realise she was unresponsive. He called for help and realised the woman had died, police said.

Police were called to the scene and confirmed she was dead before moving the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said they are investigating a murder in the death.

They plan to talk to all those who were present at the party as part of the probe.

In Nyahururu, Laikipia County, a man was found murdered in Saiberia village and his body abandoned on the roadside.

Police said they were called to the roadside scene where the body was found on Monday afternoon.

The body had deep cuts on the left cheek, at the back head, marks from beating on the chest, a cut on the right thumb, a cut on the left foot, a swollen upper right arm and cuts on the waist, police said.

The deceased did not have identification documents then, and the body was moved to the mortuary, awaiting autopsy and identification.

The motive of the murder is yet to be established, police said, adding the man may have been murdered elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene.
