Crime scene

Police are investigating a series of murders reported in different parts of the country, with three bodies discovered in Nairobi, Kiambu and Kilifi counties over the past week.

In Nairobi’s Mowlem area, the body of 50-year-old Francis Mulei was found inside his fourth-floor apartment. Mulei, who lived alone, is believed to have died days earlier from injuries on his neck, abdomen, chest, and palms.

Bloodstains were found in his bedroom, though the motive of the killing remains unclear. The body was taken to the mortuary pending a post-mortem.

In Ruiru, Kiambu County, locals alerted police after a foul smell led them to a decomposing body floating in a river on August 21.

Authorities suspect the victim was killed elsewhere and dumped at the scene. The remains were retrieved by the Ruiru fire department and moved to the mortuary for further examination.

Meanwhile, in Kaloleni, Kilifi County, 81-year-old Henry Mwakamsha Mkowa was found murdered in his house. Police said his throat had been slit, leaving his body in a pool of blood in the sitting room.

Five suspects have since been arrested in connection with the killing.

Officers say rising murder incidents in the coastal region are increasingly linked to land disputes. Investigations are ongoing in all three cases as police pursue leads to establish motives and bring those responsible to justice.
