CRIME SCENE

A man aged 80 was reportedly killed in a fight with his younger siblings in a dispute over a piece of land in Rabuor, Kisumu County.

Police said one Barack Onyuka was found dead after he was attacked in the fight.

Police said the body had injuries on the left arm, head and back.

His son was stabbed and seriously wounded as he attempted to rescue him from the attack, police and witnesses said, adding he was rushed to the hospital.

Villagers responded and attacked the two brothers, seriously wounding them.

Police came to their rescue and rushed them to the hospital under watch.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigation following the August 18 incident.

This is the latest such murder to happen in the region amid a surge in such incidents related to land disputes.

Police say the cases are on the rise amid calls for parties to solve their differences amicably.

Some of the cases are pending under probe, police say.

In the Kambu area, Makueni County, a man who has been suffering from epilepsy was found dead on the roadside.

Police said they are investigating murder in the murder of Bernard Mwaiwa, 45, who was pronounced dead in hospital and had injuries on the cheek and blood spots on the face in the August 18 incident.

Police want to establish if the injuries were out of a fall from his medical history.

Elsewhere in Maili Saba area, Trans Nzoia County, the body of a man was found in a trench in a local railway station after a suspected murder.

Police said the body of Julius Wainaina, 43, had no visible injuries or any signs of strangulation.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

A matatu driver was found dead after a suicide mission in Mutuini, Dagoretti, Nairobi County.

The man used a rope to hang himself at a farm near Kirigu Police Station on Monday evening.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known, police said. Police said Samuel Kibe, 45, had left his house in the morning carrying a rope and told his wife he was going to work. He was a matatu driver in the Ndunyu area.

His body was later found hanging from a tree with a rope tied around his neck. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Police say there is a spike in suicide cases in the country amid efforts to address the menace. Up to three cases are reported daily, which officials term as alarming.
