Ruto met the Harambee Stars team in the changing room shortly after the match.
He was accompanied by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Sports CS Salim Mvurya among other key leaders.
The President prayed for the team and asked God to grant them strength in the remaining matches.
“Our Heavenly Father, we want to thank you for this evening, thank you for this team, team Kenya, team Harambee Stars. We want to commit these good citizens of our country, these good players, to your good hands, as they play, protect them, Heavenly Father, give them success in all the remaining games,” the President prayed.
He prayed for Kenya and all the fans who have celebrated and supported the team in being victorious.
“We pray for our nation. Thank you for the fan that I have come through for them to support them. Thank you to all who have come to support these dear people of our nation. Thank you for their families,” Ruto prayed.
“We want to pray over their lives, that we will make them successful, even in this game, that they would inspire other young people to be good players, and lift our nation up, Heavenly Father, lift these young men so that they can lift our nation.”
“We pray over their legs, we pray over the games that are ahead. Father we want to pray that when we get to their finals, you will give us victory in Jesus' name, we pray.”
On Sunday, Harambee Stars edged Zambia 1–0 in a tense African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A match at Kasarani Stadium.
The decisive goal came in the 75th minute and ignited a wave of cheer among fans.
Striker Ryan Ogam, with calm composure, converted a precise pass from Boniface Muchiri before drilling a low finish past goalkeeper Charles Kalumba.
