Kipyegon clocked a blistering 8:07.04, the second-fastest time ever recorded over the distance.
She, however, fell just under a second shy of the 32-year-old world record of 8:06.11 set by China’s Wang Junxia in 1993.
The performance saw her smash multiple records, including the African Record, Diamond League record, meeting record, and the world lead.
Athletics Kenya (AK) described her run as “a stunning showcase of consistency and resilience,” noting that she continues to raise the bar for women’s athletics.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen led Kenyans in celebrating her achievement.
"Congratulations, @Kipyegon_Faith, on your incredible run to win the 3,000m race at the Silesia Diamond League. Missing the world record that has stood for 32 years by only a second is another testament to the fact that we are yet to see the best from you. Go, go, Faith!” Murkomen wrote on X.
Team Kenya also hailed her historic display, noting that she had achieved a string of remarkable feats in a single race.
Her 8:07.04 time made her the second-fastest woman in 3000m history, while also shattering the African record.
The victory further set a new Diamond League record, a meeting record, and cemented her mark as the world lead for the year.
Kipyegon, a double Olympic and World Champion in the 1500m, has now established herself as a force across multiple distances.
