State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has clarified reports suggesting that groups in Nairobi under the government’s empowerment programme failed to receive their allocations.

This followed allegations that some beneficiaries were left out during the distribution exercise held at State House, a forum that brought together thousands of Nairobi residents.

Hussein, however, clarified that every registered group that submitted a proposal had its project approved, funded, and delivered in full.

“A total of 1,100 registered groups from Nairobi submitted proposals for their empowerment programmes or projects, all approved, all funded, all received,” he stated in a post.

“Each group had 10 members with a chairperson who delivered the projects for an orderly process. That’s 11,000 people in total.”

Echoing his sentiments in a separate social media post on Saturday, digital strategist Dennis Itumbi explained that the official procedure required only group chairpersons to collect the items on behalf of their members.

“The empowerment targeted 1,150 groups, each consisting of 10 people. Only the group chairmen were allowed to collect the items. That was the official process,” Itumbi noted.

He further hinted that the empowerment programme will soon move into its next phase.

“Nairobi Empowerment season two, will follow!” he said.

The clarification comes days after President William Ruto hosted thousands of Nairobi residents at State House during the empowerment forum, where beneficiaries received assorted items and support materials to kickstart their approved projects.

The Nairobians braved the early morning cold to attend the forum.

Some of those who attended the forum left with brand new motorbikes.

Ruto’s administration has been holding the empowerment forums across the country to uplift Kenyans.

During the State House forum, Ruto urged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority, stating that they would be able to walk into a hospital and receive services without paying out of pocket.

“Jiandikishe na uandikishe familia yako ili wakiwa wagonjwa wapate matubabu bila malipo yoyote,” he said.
