Decomposed body of man, 60 found in shallow grave in Machakos

A 60-year-old man who had been missing was found buried in a shallow grave after his murder in Manaja village, Masinga, Machakos County.

Police said Johana Munyao had been missing from August 7 until August 12, when his decomposed body was found buried in a shallow grave where he used to make bricks for commercial purposes.

The motive of the murder is yet to be established, police who visited the scene said.

The man’s right hand had been eaten by dogs after they dug into the shallow grave within his compound, police said.

Munyao’s relatives said they were concerned he was missing, prompting a search in the compound where he lived alone.

The search led them to a freshly dug place which had a bad smell.  It was then that police were called to the scene and confirmed the decomposing body was lying there.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations, police said.

Elsewhere in Kobarak, Nandi County, one Philip Lunywenywe Muchera, 57, was found dead after a suspected murder.

His body was found lying beside a stream about 600 meters from his homestead, police said.

He had a fractured left leg and bruises on the head.

Police said they are investigating a murder in the case, but they have yet to establish the motive or those behind the same.

The body was moved to the local mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Murder cases have been on the rise in the country amid efforts to solve them.

The police have established a homicide unit with plans to devolve its operations to address the trend.

Some of the cases are lying in courts while others remain unsolved, police say.

Most of the cases are linked to robberies and land disputes, statistics show amid efforts to solve them.
