Teachers with P1 and Early Childhood Development Education
(ECDE) certificates now have an opportunity to upgrade their qualifications to
diploma level.
This comes after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central
Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened applications for the Diploma in Primary
Teacher Education (DPTE).
The upgrade is intended to improve qualifications and
enhance teaching skills.
Applicants must hold a certificate in P1 or ECDE to qualify,
the placement service said on Thursday.
“Here’s a chance to upgrade your qualification to Diploma
level. Apply for placement to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
through KUCCPS.”
Those eligible are encouraged to submit their applications
immediately, as the programme is scheduled to begin this August.
“Apply now and begin your upgrade programme this August,”
the notice reads, urging teachers not to miss the opportunity.
Interested applicants can apply online via teachersupgrade.kuccps.ac.ke.
This comes a few weeks after KUCCPS announced the reopening
of its application portal for students seeking admission into Technical and
Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for the September 2025
intake.
The opportunity is open to KCSE certificate holders who sat
their exams between 2000 and 2024. Depending on one’s performance, the minimum
entry requirements vary by course level.
Those applying for Artisan Certificate courses (Level 4)
must have scored at least an E grade in KCSE. Craft Certificate courses (Level
5) require a minimum grade of D, while Diploma courses (Level 6) require at
least a C- (minus).
To encourage more applicants and remove financial barriers,
KUCCPS waived all application fees for this intake.
Applications are submitted online through the KUCCPS
Students' Portal at students.kuccps.net, with guidelines available on the
official KUCCPS website www.kuccps.ac.ke.
KUCCPS is a State Corporation established under the
Universities Act, No. 42 of 2012, to coordinate the placement of
Government-sponsored students to universities and colleges.
