The Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy has announced four vacancies for the position of members of the Media Council of Kenya.
The ministry is inviting qualified individuals to submit their applications within seven days from the date of the notice’s publication.
The announcement, made under Section 7(2) of the Media Council Act, 2013, outlines that applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a degree from a recognised university in fields such as journalism, law, finance, gender and human rights, performing arts, media, business management, religious studies, humanities, social sciences, or information technology.
Candidates must also have at least ten years of relevant experience, meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution, and have established careers in their respective professions.
Certain individuals are barred from applying. These include current Members of Parliament or county assemblies, officials of political parties, anyone who has held political office in the last five years, undischarged bankrupts, individuals with criminal records, and those previously removed from office for violating the Constitution.
Those appointed will serve for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal for one additional term.
Applicants are required to submit a detailed CV, academic certificates, testimonials, and a copy of a national identification document. Applications can be submitted manually, online, or by post.
Manual applications should be delivered to the 10th floor of Teleposta Towers on Koinange Street in Nairobi.
Online applications should be sent to [email protected]. Postal applications must be addressed to the Selection Panel, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, P.O. Box 30025-00100, Nairobi.
The ministry has stated that names of applicants and shortlisted candidates will be published in the Kenya Gazette and two national newspapers.
Shortlisted individuals will also be required to obtain clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and a recognized Credit Reference Bureau.
The deadline for submission is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025.
