Kanu party has clarified that its leader, Gideon Moi, has no desire or inclination to work with President William Ruto and the broader Kenya Kwanza regime.
In a statement, the party dismissed a video clip circulating on social media that suggests the former Baringo Senator is backing the current regime.
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading video clip that has resurfaced on social media, falsely suggesting that Hon. Gideon Moi is currently aligning himself with the current regime.
“We wish to set the record straight that Hon. Gideon Moi has neither the desire nor the inclination to support this regime,” the statement reads.
The party said the video was taken out of context and is part of a deliberate misinformation campaign.
The clip, which was filmed during Hosea Kiplagat's funeral in 2021, has resurfaced with a misleading transcription, according to the party.
Kanu said the timing of the video’s circulation is suspicious, noting it comes as the government faces declining public trust.
The party believes the clip was shared to fabricate a political alliance that does not exist.
“The calculated timing of this shallow and futile misinformation campaign to dupe the public is telling. It comes at a time when the government is rapidly losing public trust and grasping at anything, including fabricating alliances where none exist,” the party said.
The former ruling party made it clear that any decision regarding political alliances must be made through formal party structures.
It insisted that Moi has not declared any support for the government and remains firmly with the party.
“Fundamental decisions about political alliances are sanctioned through structured party processes,” Kanu said.
The party concluded that until its leadership and membership collectively decide on the next political direction, Moi remains firmly in his position.
