Man, 18, stabbed at funeral in fight over girlfriend in Maseno, Kisumu

The motive was suspected to be a love triangle, police said

A man aged 18 was fatally stabbed in an altercation over a girlfriend in the Maseno area, Kisumu County.

Police said Collins Hongo had been at a funeral in Karateng village when he and the assailant quarreled on July 19.

The assailant picked up a knife and stabbed him in the left thigh.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He had bled profusely.

The assailant escaped the scene soon after the 2 am incident.

Police raided the home of the assailant and recovered a blood stained grey jumper that he was wearing at the time of the attack.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures as the hunt on the suspect goes on, police said.

Elsewhere, a night guard was arrested in connection with the murder of another guard in the Matisi area, Bungoma County.

A night guard had on Saturday been killed at a bar, and assorted goods were stolen.

Police pursued a suspect and recovered a 42-inch television set that was stolen from the bar a motorcycle that was suspected to have been used in the crime, a blood-stained jacket, brown boots and a piece of cloth that was used to cover the mouth of the deceased.

Police said they are looking for more suspects over the incident.

Meanwhile, detectives in Kwavonza, Yatta, Kitui County are investigating murder in an incident where the body of a man was found in Manyanzaani village.

Police said the decomposed body was found in a thicket.

It was identified to be of one Muema Mutunga, 68, who went missing on June 26.

The cause of the death is yet to be known.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

In Kondele, Kisumu County, the body of a street urchin was found decomposed in a trench.

Police said they are investigating the incident and that the body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
