A man is in police custody after allegedly stabbing and killing his wife during a domestic dispute in Kangemi’s Gichagi village, Nairobi.

The victim, 30-year-old Dorcas Nyangiri, was found early Tuesday morning lying in a pool of blood outside her home. She had a deep stab wound in the neck.

Police say the killing followed a fight with her husband, reportedly over suspicions of infidelity.

Witnesses told officers the couple had been seen together the previous evening at a local shop in Kangemi Centre.

According to initial reports, the man bought a knife at the shop and hid it in his pocket.

Back at their home, the two got into an argument, during which he allegedly confronted her about seeing another man.

The altercation turned violent, and he stabbed her in the neck.

Nyangiri reportedly screamed for help, but by the time neighbors arrived, she was already dead. The suspect tried to flee the scene but was cornered by a group of residents who beat and stoned him.

Police officers arrived and rescued him from the mob, rushing him to the hospital for treatment. The weapon believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene.

The woman's body was taken to the mortuary pending a postmortem. Detectives have opened a murder investigation.

Police say murder cases continue to rise across the country, with many linked to domestic and land disputes. On average, up to eight murder cases are reported daily.

Many of the cases are still under investigation or pending in court. Authorities are urging those involved in disputes to seek peaceful resolution instead of resorting to violence.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently set up a dedicated homicide unit to handle the growing number of such cases. Officers say they are committed to ensuring justice is served.
