Police in Narok East have seized a haul of bhang and detained a vehicle suspected of transporting the drugs from Kisii to Nairobi.

The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 1, when officers from Ntulele police station intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser along the Narok–Mai Mahiu highway.

According to NPS, the driver defied police orders to stop, triggering a high-speed chase.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle developed mechanical problems and was abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road.

“The two occupants escaped into nearby maize plantations and remain at large,” NPS stated.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered three sacks containing 600 brooms of bhang.

Both the vehicle and the narcotics are currently secured at Ntulele police station as investigations continue.

"The NPS commends the swift action of officers and the vigilance of the public in this ongoing fight against drug trafficking," NPS said.

Police urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, in Bungoma West subcounty, police arrested a woman and seized 154 rolls of bhang following a successful raid in Nabuloli village.

The operation was carried out after a tip-off from members of the public, targeting the suspect’s homestead.

The woman was held at Sirisia police station and was set to be arraigned at the Sirisia Law Courts.

The arrest in Bungoma followed a similar operation conducted on June 2 in Kisumu county, where officers seized a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa during a raid in Alendu village.

The operation was led by officers from Rabuor police station, who also acted on intelligence provided by vigilant community members.

During the search, police discovered three large sacks containing numerous rolls of cannabis.

The NPS has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug networks through sustained, intelligence-led operations and continued collaboration with the public, aiming to protect communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
