James Nyutu, appointed  Group Managing Director for Unga Group Plc

Unga Group Plc has announced the appointment of James Nyutu as its Group Managing Director, effective July 1, 2025.

Nyutu joined Unga in 2013 as Group Finance Director.

Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the Group's financial strategy and digital transformation initiatives.

Before the promotion, Nyutu held the role of Group Finance and ICT Director, where he was instrumental in steering Unga’s financial strategy and digital transformation.

Until his appointment, he was serving as MD in an acting capacity since June 4, 2024.

“A seasoned management professional, Mr. Nyutu has over 20 years of experience across business strategy, financial management, corporate governance, and information systems,” Isabella Ochola Wilson, Chairman of Unga Group, said while announcing the appointment.

He began his career in the financial services sector, holding various positions at Corporate Insurance, British American Insurance Company and NAS Airport Services before joining Unga.

Nyutu holds a Master's of Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi.

His professional credentials include Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (K), Certified Public Secretary, (CISA) and membership in the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS).

The Board congratulated Nyutu and expressed confidence in his leadership to drive the company’s strategic growth.

Unga Group Plc is one of the leading food, animal feed, and animal health companies in East Africa, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Group has been in operation for over 115 years. It is among the pioneering companies to have been listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) since 1955, thereby transferring economic and social control to its citizens. 

In Kenya, Unga Group operates Unga Limited and Unga Farmcare East Africa.

Unga Limited manufactures wheat, maize, and millet into flour products and trades in Sugar, rice, Pasta and pulses for human consumption and operates two sites in Eldoret and Nairobi

On the other hand, Unga Farmcare (EA) Limited manufactures animal nutrition products and distributes animal health products with three manufacturing sites: Nairobi Feeds, Nakuru Feeds, and Nakuru Mineral Plant.
