Police in Kericho County are investigating a suspected suicide case involving a 75-year-old man.
According to a police report from Ainamoi Police Station, Julius Mutai reported at 11:30 am on June 23 that his father, Kipchirchir Arap Keter, had taken his own life.
The incident happened at their homestead in Bakao Village, Ainamoi Sub-location, about six kilometres east of the station.
Officers rushed to the scene and found that the elderly man had hanged himself using a manila rope tied to a tree branch within the compound.
Family members told police that Keter had been battling throat cancer and was scheduled for specialised treatment at Tenwek Mission Hospital on the same day.
“It could be due to pain and financial costs associated with the sickness that might have led him to commit suicide,” the report stated.
Police said the body had no visible injuries. It was moved to Siloam Hospital Mortuary in Kericho to await a postmortem.
The case is pending investigation.
In another suicide incident, police in Kisii County are investigating the death of a man who was found hanging from a tree.
According to a report from Keumbu Police Station, Chief Dennis Osano Bikeri informed officers of the incident on June 23 at 8:30 am.
Officers led by OCS C.I Pamela Kasaya rushed to the scene at Gianchere Village, Riondon'ga Sub-location, about two kilometres north of the station.
They found the body of Hesbon Menge Mokaya, a 40-year-old man from Sengera Village in Nyamira County. He was discovered hanging with a sisal rope around his neck inside a private forest.
Family members at the scene said Mokaya had previously shown signs of attempting suicide, though this information is unverified.
Scenes of crime officers from DCI Kisii Central processed the area. Apart from rope marks on his neck, there were no other visible injuries on the body.
The body was moved to Keroka General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
