
Police in Siaya County are investigating the death of an elderly woman found hanging in her house.
The incident was reported at Ratado Police Station under OB number 19/06/2025 at 12:30 pm.
According to police, Julius Ahenda, the area assistant chief for Masat West Sub-location, reported the matter.
He said Mikal Adhiambo Omollo, 83, was found hanging from the roof of her house in Kobiero 'A' village, about four kilometres west of the station.
Officers visited the scene and found the body lying next to the door. A manila rope was still around her neck, with another part remaining in the roof.
“It was established that the deceased was staying alone and was found by her helper in the morning, having locked herself from inside and was not responding when called,” the report stated.
No suicide note was found.
Police said the body had visible injuries on the forehead and the back of the head.
It was moved to Matibabu Serenity Funeral Parlour for preservation, pending a postmortem.
Elsewhere, police in Rongo, Migori County, are investigating the death of a man at a mining site in Kanga area.
The incident was reported on June 19 at 9:15 am by George Omon, the assistant chief of South Kanyamambe Sub-location.
Officers from Kitere Police Station and DCI, led by the OCS, visited the scene about four kilometres west of the station.
They found the body of Dennish Ouma, 35, trapped in a crushing machine at the home of Trufosa Akoth Mbuya.
Police said the body was in a sitting position. There were no visible injuries, but blood was oozing from his mouth and nose.
“It was established that the deceased who operates the crushing machine reported on duty today at about 0600 hrs and at 0645 hrs his dead body was spotted at the scene by a student who was on his way to school who informed the owner of the machine,” the report stated.
The scene was processed, and the body was moved to Rosewood Mortuary pending a postmortem.
