

An unidentified man was killed by a mob on Tuesday morning in Chaani, Mombasa County.
The incident occurred along Port Reitz Road near Rubis petrol station. Police say the man was found dead with multiple injuries to the head.
“He had blood oozing from the mouth, nose, and ears,” reads the police report.
According to No. 91238 PC Mbusi Jay Juma of Traffic Changamwe, a member of the public alerted him to the presence of a body lying at Kwahola.
He then informed the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Chaani Police Station.
Officers from Chaani and detectives from DCI Changamwe responded and visited the scene.
They found the man lying outside the plot of one Omar Abdalla Kirauni.
Police say the deceased had jumped over the rear perimeter wall into the plot and stole assorted kitchen utensils.
The owner of the plot reportedly woke up and raised an alarm.
Before the man could escape, members of the public caught up with him and subjected him to mob justice.
He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The body was photographed and taken to the Coast General Hospital Morgue. Investigations are ongoing.
In another similar incident, a 37-year-old man died after he was beaten by a mob in Kamuneru, Bungoma County, on Wednesday morning.
Police say the victim, identified as James Obeke Boit, was suspected of stealing potatoes belonging to a resident of Kamuneru.
The incident occurred at Chembuale area, about 1.5 kilometres west of Kamuneru Police Post.
Kamuneru Assistant Chief Robert Juma reported the matter to police around 9:30 am.
Officers responded swiftly and found Boit lying by the roadside with multiple injuries.
“He had visible injuries on the head and fractured hands,” the report reads.
Bystanders told police the victim had been attacked by a mob over the alleged theft.
The OCS Kapsokwony and DCI officers from Mt. Elgon visited the scene.
The suspect was rushed to Mt. Elgon Sub-County Hospital but succumbed while undergoing treatment.
His body was moved to Webuye Sub-County Mortuary for a postmortem.
Investigations are ongoing.
