In Kwale County, Police are investigating an incident where a truck driver was abducted and robbed by suspects posing as police officers along Mombasa Road on Saturday morning

According to a police report, the incident unfolded at around 11:30 pm, on Friday night near Taru Town when the driver was intercepted by a white Probox vehicle with five occupants.

One of the suspects was dressed in a police jungle uniform and claimed they needed to inspect the truck.

Moments later, the suspects allegedly bundled the driver into the boot of the Probox and drove off, abandoning the lorry.

The vehicle was later discovered around 6 am on Saturday, parked in the middle of Mombasa Road near Samburu, approximately two kilometers east of the local police station.

Police recovered the truck and discovered that the spare tyre and 126 bags of 25 kilograms each, believed to have been part of the cargo, had been stolen.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle’s tracking system indicated its last known location as Meli Kubwa, the same place the driver was found.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Taru is currently handling the case.

No arrests have been made so far, and police are pursuing leads on the identity of the suspects and the location of the stolen goods.

Additionally, police are hunting down suspects of an ambush at a lorry in Laksure Location, Mandera West.

This was after a group of armed men opened fire on a lorry transporting firewood on Saturday afternoon. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 pm, when the driver was returning from the Arertur area alongside four passengers.

They had visited the location to collect firewood they had gathered the previous day, but found it missing.

As they began driving back toward Takaba, a passenger seated at the back of the lorry noticed two armed men running toward the vehicle and raised the alarm.

Moments later, three more armed men on a motorcycle emerged from a nearby manyatta and began firing at the lorry.

The driver accelerated and managed to escape unharmed. The vehicle, however, sustained two bullet dents, with one bullet head still lodged in its body.
