
Emergency response teams are conducting search and rescue operations following a building collapse at Nairobi's Gikomba Market.
In a statement, the Kenya Red Cross said it is supporting response efforts at the scene alongside the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade and other emergency responders.
The humanitarian agency said rescue teams are working to locate and assist anyone who may have been trapped in the debris, although details on casualties or the number of people affected had not been immediately released.
"Search and rescue operations are ongoing alongside the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade and other emergency responders," the Kenya Red Cross said.
Authorities have yet to establish the cause of the collapse as emergency personnel continue their operations.
The Kenya Red Cross said more information will be provided as details are confirmed.
Gikomba Market, one of Nairobi's largest open-air markets, has in the past experienced incidents involving fires and structural failures, raising concerns over safety standards in the densely populated trading hub.
Emergency teams remained at the scene as rescue efforts continued.
