“Through acting on credible intelligence, a team of officers drawn from Kibera Police Station apprehended the criminals,” DCI stated.
The suspects are believed to be notorious criminals behind a series of crimes in Kibera and its environs.
“The arrested suspects have been terrorising innocent residents of Kibera,” DCI noted.
They were flushed out of their hideout in the Kibera Line Saba area following a well-coordinated operation.
A swift search led to the recovery of a homemade firearm, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, alongside six smartphones, two laptops and a camera lens.
The suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment, while the recovered items remain secured as exhibits in the ongoing investigation.
On May 24, at least six suspects were arrested, and assorted stolen mobile phones were recovered from them in an operation in Nairobi.
Police said they also recovered Sh614,000 from the suspects, which they believe are proceeds of the crime.
The recovered mobile phones were stolen from separate parts of the city and were valued at Sh3 million, Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Sedah said.
He added they were looking for more suspects in connection with the crime.
“They usually configure some of the mobile phones and sell them elsewhere. We advise against buying stolen devices,” he said.
Most of the thieves behind the trend operate on motorcycles, he said. Police advised those whose gadgets are stolen to always report the cases.
Police say some of the stolen gadgets are usually tampered with and resold to unsuspecting buyers. Others are sold to neighboring countries for use.
Police have in the past arrested and charged some suspects with serious offenses like robbery with violence and murder in such operations.
This was after it emerged the gadgets were violently robbed from the owners, some of which led to deaths or serious injuries.
The operation is ongoing.
