Ninety officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and 14 allied nations have successfully completed combat and leadership training at the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) in Karen, Nairobi.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya presided over their graduation ceremony of Cohort 40–2024/25 on Thursday, June 5.
“This year’s graduation ceremony carries a deeper significance as JCSC commemorates 40 years of excellence,” CS Tuya said.
The occasion marked a major milestone in the college’s history, underscoring its enduring legacy, professionalism, and continued relevance in preparing mid-level military officers for senior command and strategic responsibilities.
Over the past four decades, the JCSC—now a constituent college of the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K)—has produced some of Africa’s most distinguished military leaders.
Among them is Kenya’s current Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, a graduate of the 2002 cohort.

In a similar event on June 5, 2024, 89 military officers from 15 countries graduated from Cohort 39–2023/24 at the same institution.
That ceremony was officiated by then-Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
The class comprised 68 commissioned officers from the KDF and 21 officers from 14 other countries across Africa and beyond, holding the ranks of Major and Lieutenant Colonel.
The graduates successfully completed a rigorous 48-week training programme at what is widely regarded as Kenya’s premier military training institution.
Duale was accompanied at the 2024 ceremony by Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lt Gen John Omenda, Army Commander Lt Gen David Tarus, Air Force Commander Maj Gen Fatma Ahmed, Navy Commander Maj Gen Paul Otieno, and JCSC Commandant Maj Gen Eric Kinuthia, alongside other senior officers.
