
A man was arrested after he stormed a church in Suneka, Kisii County and destroyed property valued at more than Sh200,000.
The motive of the Friday
morning incident is yet to be known, police said.
The man, while armed with a metal bar, also
attacked and seriously injured three guards who were on duty at the Suneka
Catholic Parish Church.
One of the guards
lost three teeth in the drama as he tried to stop the assailant.
Police said the man
had jumped through a perimeter fence at the church and gone to the main church.
Therein, he broke 27
plastic chairs, two music system speakers, a flash door and a window.
It was then that the
guards rushed to stop him.
He, instead, while
armed with the metal bar, attacked them.
One of them lost
three teeth. The victims were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Police were called
to the scene and managed to disarm and arrest the suspect.
He was also injured
following the confrontation.
Police said they
took him to the hospital for medical attention pending investigations into the
incident.
The officers said
they plan to take him to a psychiatric facility in the area as part of efforts to
address the issue.
And
four suicide incidents were separately reported in a worrying trend.
The
first incident happened in Msambweni, Kwale County, where a 30-year-old man was
found dead.
His
body was found hanging from a cotton bed sheet around the neck.
Another
incident happened in Nandi Hills, Nandi County, where one Victor Kipkosgei, 21, was found hanging on a roof in his house.
Preliminary
investigation revealed that the deceased might have been undergoing some pain,
trauma, and stress due to the fracture injury he was nursing on his left leg,
police said.
In
Homabay, one James Otieno, 30, hanged himself using a manila rope in his house. The
motive of the incident is yet to be known.
In
Makongeni, Nairobi, a woman identified as
Patricia
Muendi Meka, 20 died by suicide by hanging herself using a piece of cloth at
her mabati house located within Mbotela shopping Centre.
The
motive of the incident is yet to be known.
Police
said the bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Meanwhile,
police are investigating an incident where a six-year-old girl drowned in a
well in Opapo Village, Rongo, Migori County.
The
child was alone in their rented house when they ventured into an open well near
there.
The
child’s parents had left her in the house and left for manual work in the area
when the incident happened.
The body was moved to a local mortuary pending postmortem.
