He tries to remain relevant. He studies where the wind is blowing towards then he jumps in.
But in the past week, he appeared to be shaky. One time he said very interesting things. He said that Ruto should not leave office.
He said if Ruto goes, then it would be worse because his deputy Rigathi Gachagua might become the President.
That the country is safer with Ruto and that is why there should be dialogue.
And then when he goes to Gen Zs, he changes tune and starts saying there is no dialogue and that Ruto must go.
So, he keeps following the wind.
But the understanding between Ruto and Raila is there. They cut a deal a long time ago.
What Kenyans and other Azimio principals are doing are just sideshows but the political deal was cut.
What other Azimio principals are doing is that they are reacting to the reality that they have refused to see for all that time.
As early as last year, Raila had entered a political deal with Ruto.
The person who has been cheated is Kalonzo Musyoka. He has supported Raila for so many years and he thought that Raila would support him in 2027.
Kalonzo was given a job to do, together with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah in the National Dialogue Committee.
It was just a job opportunity.
But the report has not gone through from him to get the job – official leader of the opposition.
For Gachagua, he diluted himself for some time. The information was given to him by various emissaries.
He was told not to be too comfortable because the political deal between Ruto and Raila was happening. That Ruto and Raila are likely to get back together. They have been together before.
Once Raila accepted the fact of his defeat by Ruto, he looked for a way to come back.
So, has cut a deal with Ruto, and that appears to be a pattern with him. He loses the election and then cuts a deal with the winner.
