Kenya Revenue Authority says its Scanner Management System (iScan) will be unavailable for an hour Tuesday night for system maintenance.
In a public notice, the taxman said the scheduled maintenance will start at 11pm on April 9 to 12am, on April 10.
“Kenya Revenue Authority informs all stakeholders that there will be a scheduled maintenance of the iScan system as stated. During this period, the iScan system will be unavailable," KRA said.
"Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted."
iScan is a software designed to digitally collect data on goods at border points and inland depots by Customs officers to facilitate efficient clearance of goods.
It’s one of the technologies that KRA has leveraged in eliminating duplication of manual procedures, thus simplifying, hastening, securing and reducing costs associated with cargo clearance.
Other systems the authority uses include Single Window and the Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS).
KRA implemented the Integrated Scanner Management Solution to interconnect all cargo scanners to a Central Command and Control Centre from where enforcement decisions are then coordinated.
At the Port of Mombasa for instance, KRA installed drive-through scanners to scan containerised cargo imported or exported through the Port.
The detectors help promote the integrity of the supply chain by detecting concealed and mis-declared cargo.
"Non-intrusive inspection technology such as X-ray or gamma-ray imaging type equipment allows Customs to have a quick insight of a container load without the need to open and unload it," KRA states on its website.
"The faster clearance would also lead to lower cost of production, which may translate to cheaper goods and services for consumers," it adds.
